Mayfair

Hedge funds and family offices — the discreet end of London finance.

Mayfair, between Hyde Park and Piccadilly, is where London's hedge funds, family offices, and private-equity firms cluster. Berkeley Square and the streets around it host names like Brevan Howard, Marshall Wace, BlueCrest, GLG, Pershing Square's London office, and most of the city's mid-sized buy-out firms. Mayfair offices are smaller than Canary Wharf towers but command among the highest commercial rents in Europe.

Origin

Mayfair was built up in the 18th century around Hanover and Berkeley Squares. Hedge funds began moving there in the early 2000s, drawn by quieter offices, proximity to clients in central London, and short walks to the West End.
