Charlotte Square
Scotland's asset-management capital — Baillie Gifford's home.
Edinburgh is the second-largest UK financial centre after London, anchored by long-running asset managers (Baillie Gifford, abrdn — formerly Standard Life Aberdeen, Aegon UK, Royal London Asset Management) and the Royal Bank of Scotland (now NatWest Group). Charlotte Square in the Georgian New Town has historically been the symbolic centre, with St Andrew Square and the West End completing the cluster.
Origin
Edinburgh's life-assurance industry dates to Standard Life's founding in 1825; Baillie Gifford was founded in 1908. RBS / NatWest Group's Gogarburn campus opened in 2005.
